Many of the people we care for are older, unwell or living with a disability, and some are children. Safeguarding them is part of everything we do, from who we recruit to how we respond when something worries us.
Our commitment
- We treat abuse, neglect and exploitation of any kind as unacceptable.
- We put the safety and wishes of the person at the centre of every decision.
- We act quickly on concerns and work with families, health professionals and the authorities.
- We protect people who raise concerns in good faith.
Safer recruitment
Before anyone works with clients we carry out face-to-face interviews, check identity, qualifications and references, and ask for police clearance. New staff complete an induction that includes recognising and reporting abuse.
What we look out for
Abuse can be physical, emotional, sexual, financial or material, or take the form of neglect, discrimination or self-neglect. Our carers are trained to notice warning signs such as unexplained injuries, changes in behaviour, missing money or belongings, poor hygiene or nutrition, and fear of particular people.
Safe practice at work
- Carers follow the client's care plan and record each visit.
- Carers must not accept money, gifts or loans from clients, or handle a client's money except as agreed in the care plan with receipts.
- Personal and intimate care is carried out with consent, privacy and dignity.
- Staff keep client information confidential except where sharing it is needed to keep someone safe.
How to report a concern
- Call or WhatsApp our office on +263 77 952 5638 at any time and ask for the care coordinator or a manager.
- Email info@care4u.co.zw with "Safeguarding" in the subject line.
- Concerns about a child can also be reported to the Zimbabwe Republic Police or the Department of Social Development.
We will listen, record the concern, take steps to protect the person, and involve the right authorities where needed. We will keep you informed as far as confidentiality allows.
Speaking up
Staff are expected to report concerns about a colleague's practice. Anyone who raises a concern honestly will be supported and will not be treated unfairly for doing so.
Review
We review our safeguarding arrangements at least once a year and after any serious incident.
